what's the best cocked and locked carry holster? They all used to be that way, now days i seem to find ones that the strap goes over the hammer of a 1911. ie uncocked
I haven't purchased a 1911 holster in awhile. The ones I do have that include a strap, the strap goes between the cocked hammer and the rear of the slide. Desantis used to make one and any customer holster maker could easily make you whatever you like.
Give these guys a look https://stonerholsters.com or a call. The owner often answers the phone. Their quality is excellent and warranty even better. I lost some chicago screws from their shoulder rig, my fault, and they wouldn't let me pay for extras. They sent me replacements second day air for free. I would highly recommend their holster dressing for leather holsters, as well.
FWIW, when I'm carrying a 1911 I typically don't use a holster with a strap, except the shoulder holster. Other retention systems work well enough that my gun isn't falling out and the strap is just another thing to slow you down if you really need it.
I don?t see many designed for cocked-and-locked either. Rudy from Black Hills Leather made this one for me if you run out of options

Lobo Gun Leather will make you pretty much anything they don?t currently offer, but don?t seem to fast with anything.

How are they now? I used to only use Lobo Gun Leather when Mr. Cory owned the name.

Have has two from them for a couple of years now. Other than taking a few months to get them, they?re nice holsters
Thanks. was looking for a thumb snap like old Bianchi's
I don't use a thumb break so I have no personal experience, but I do have an open top 1791 leather holster and it is great quality for the price. They have a BHX thumb break option in their line and specifically call out in the description condition 1 carry.
Some of the photos show condition 2/3 carry, but I would imagine that is the photoshop work of the design house and probably the reason they call out condition 1 in the description. It was probably cheaper for them to alter the description than to pay for new art.
I think I found one, DeSaints still makes one
DeSaints I like it :)
I like a thumb break holster, my first one was in 1990. It was a duty holster for a S&W 686. I have had thumb breaks every since, it's what feels natural after 30+ years!
You might look at simply rugged.

carried condition 1 in corrections for 25 years with thumb snap is what most comfortable with. Was Having problems with the Banchi knock off safety while carrying. So far, no such issue with the Dessaints. wish Banchi would do the same.
Check out Rafter-L Combat leather, Milt Sparks, or Davis leather. IOHO, a properly made and fitted leather holster does not need a strap for retention. Just sayin'.
Lookup Tucker Gun Leather. Their work is Amazing!
