Title: Any of you had the opportunity to try X-Treme Bullets?
Post by: Kenk on October 04 2022 09:30:44 AM MDT
Any of you had the opportunity to try X-Treme Bullets? I spoke with the owner a few months ago, and was contacted again today regarding samples he will be sending out. He did say that their 10mm cast bullets are .400 , but would have really liked them at .401

I like their bullets, especially their heavy 165gr 9mm that I primarily use in my suppressed 9's, but I loathe their freedom munitions 9mm brass case with a step in it.

That stuff almost blew me up.  I had a case seperation in my full auto smg.  The only thing that saved me that day, was I was zero'ing a red dot sight and had the gun flipped over to single.  If it had happened 4 shots later, it would not have ended well at all.

Seriously.

That?s some scary stuff, but the bullets themselves you thought were ok?

Yes, I like their bullets.   Or at least the 165gr 9mm round nose.  They're my favorite suppressed plinking round.  To be honest, it's the only other thing I still have of theirs.

But, their loaded ammo, no way.  Not again in a million years.  At the risk of sounding rude, I wouldn't take a box if someone gave it to me for a Christmas present.

It only takes one complete case separation, sqiub and simultaneous OOB to learn my lesson.  I'm a quick learner where that is concerned.

To be completely honest, it could've been completely avoided with good brass instead of trying to skimp on that stepped imported crap they were using and knowing full well it was garbage because I was not the first or only person having the same problems.  It should've been recalled, but....that didn't happen.

Thanks John, just for fun I went looking for 165gr- 9mm load data and didn?t find a lot. I?m guessing your trying to keep them around 1000 - 1050 fps if your running them suppressed.

Yeah, I certainly keep them subsonic.  It's my pet load and favorite plinking round.

To be honest though, depending on which gun I'm using it in and how ported the barrel is to bleed off some of the gasses under the handguards, they're often more in the 880-900 fps territory.

But, again, that's with integrally suppressed stuff.  I'm sure you would get more out of it in an unported and/or longer barrel.

I generally load it with really fast burning powders too, which helps the suppressors be a lot more efficient since it's burned out before being puked out in the silencer.  2.8gr of titegroup mainly is what I use.  N320 is also another good suppressed 9mm powder.  Dr. Dater used N320 mostly and called it special K (nickname). but it often won't cycle a glock barrel, whereas my titegroup load normally will.  It even cycles big heavy open bolt machineguns most of the time.

I stopped using X-treme bullets due to the high cost. I load for target and recently switched to a polymer coated lead bullet. My latest load is 165 grain RNFP I can buy 750 for 82 bucks shipping included. You do need to bell the case a bit more.  My range partner and I have runs tests to see if the poly coating stays on the bullet. As far as we can tell the coating is very durable. I had used X-treme for many years until the costs became prohibitive. Take a look at " thebluebullets.com" and see what they have available I only order a quantity that has free shipping. Currently loading 9,40/10 and 45ACP.

$71.00 for 750 - 9?s isn?t bad at all. Seems like I also saw some 160gr - 9mm as well, interesting

I've been casting and resizing 158 gr 357 using for my heavy subs.  It loads the same with my recipe that I'm using for the 165's.

just checked Blue bullets for 180 10mm heads... price of 8.2 cents per
Xtreme heavy plated 180s come out to 8.9 cents per..

Not much difference and I know I can push the heavy plated up to 1500fps ( tho I rarely go over 1350 )

I noticed the Berry's plated are just rated around 1500 fps too.  I exceed that with my carbine, so that too would be out of the running.

I have used thousands of their plated bullets without any complaints.  .38, 9mm,10mm, 41, 44, & 45.  I highly recommend them.

XTreme has a heavy plate conical base bullet that I push pretty hard in 10mm with very good results.

I bought 1500 40/10MM Cal. 180 Gr Copper plated HPs.  I've shot 150 of them in the 10MM Kimber and RIA.  No problems with the bullets and accuracy seems fine.  As for the RIA, that is another story.

Thanks 38_Super, it seems like the general consensus is incredibly positive
