This happened aprx 25 miles from us at a Scheels store.
19-year-old man asked a store employee to see a semi-automatic handgun in the gun department. When the employee handed the unloaded weapon to the man, he fled across the store toward the archery area while loading the handgun and then fired a single shot.
Police believe the man brought his own ammunition into the store.

First time I've head of that plan. One of our local ranges won't rent a gun to less than two people if they don't know you, or you don't have your own gun with you. Two people rented guns and shot themselves on the range in a span of a year with rentals. Another range had a guy rent a gun and shoot himself in the head, then run out screaming and bleeding. Oddly, that guy was never found. Sick sad world sometimes.
Absolutely, I?ll bet Scheels will implement some type of trigger locking setup corporate wide.
I think this is a common occurrence at ranges. People rent guns and shoot themselves. I guess it's a cheap way to shoot yourself if you don't have your own gun!! Craig
There was a guy that shot himself after renting a gun at a range not too far from me. IT was the start of their downfall and they eventually closed for good. I think even his "rent a tank" is closed now also.
It will be interesting to see Scheel's response to this and how they try to prevent this from happening again. I dont know how often something like this happens but depending on how far this story spreads there could be others that do the same.
It?s just so darn tragic that it can come to this. A lot of desperate, and hurting folks out there
