I am new to the forum and new to reloading.
I have been shooting 10mm since I purchased, new, my Wyoming Arms 10 (which I still have in my collection).
Decided to try reloading and 10mm seemed like a good place to start.
I have:
300 once fired starline brass, deprimed and cleaned.
1k federal large pistol primers.
2 lbs of power pistol
1 lb of HS-6
100 hordany 180 gr fmj-fp.
200 hordany 155 gr xtp.
A Lyman turret press
Lyman dies
A scale, tricker, and powder measure
Calipers
Lyman 50th edition reloading book and Hornady reloading app
A 10mm case gauge
A frankford arsenal hand primer
A chronograph arrives tomorrow
I?ve done a lot of reading and looking to shoot my first reloaded rounds this weekend.
I appreciate all the info everyone posts here.

I just started reloading 10MM and I used 180 Grain bullets and 7.7 Grain CFE Pistol powder. Not because I think CFE is the best powder for 10MM but because I have 4 lbs and not using it for any other loads. As far as buying any powder in my area - forget it.

I have Power Pistol and use it in the 38 Super but with no hope of getting more I didn't want to use it up in the 10MM. Never saw any BE-86 in a store but if I do I will grab some. Nothing really available in my area for a while, maybe some rifle powder at outrageous prices.
I purchase nearly 100% online if the price is acceptable, for me, it?s the only way to go
I was lucky enough to purchase 4# of power pistol from Powder Valley 2 days ago. They seem to have stock rotate in frequently
Took my first 5 rounds (ever) to the range today to test my work.
Once fired Starline brass
Federal no 150 large pistol primers
Hornady 10mm 180 gn FMJ-FP
Allianz powder - power pistol
Loaded to 8.4 gn
COAL 1.26
I also measured the case following the taper crimp and it was .422
I first shot 5 rounds of Georgia Arms factory 180 gn FMJ-FP?s as a starting point, only 2 of the 5 rounds registered on the chrono ( I have some work to do on using the chrono) and they came out as:
1133
1118
I put my reloaded 5 rounds in with the following results on the chrono:
1191
1207
2 shots did not register and the last round would not feed
When I got home I measured the last round and it was 1.198 ( I have verified all rounds at 1.26 when I loaded them)
Also checked the case diameter at the crimp and it was .422
The case has some ?scratch? marks on it that look odd (not there prior to attempting to feed it in the pistol (I attached a photo)
I was using a kimber 1911 with a 5? barrel
Any thoughts on what I did wrong?
The cartridge pictured the bullet is also set back too deep for sure
You must be experiencing some feeding issues, not sure if the cartridge is hitting the feed ramp, breech face may be rough, but the extractor may be out of spec.
It looks like that round nosedived coming out of your magazine and stuck on the bottom of the feed ramp. That's what caused the bullet to setback in the case. There are two most likely causes. The first could be the OAL and the second could be your magazines, or a combination of both. A lot of 10mm loads are seated at 1.250" and that doesn't sound like much of a difference, but it can have this effect. If it's the magazine causing this, the follower is tilting and not keeping the nose of the bullet high enough to engage the ramp correctly.
My Kimber 10mm runs fine with Kimber, Wilson, and Colt magazines. Yours could be more picky. I'd try shortening the OAL to 1.250" first. If that doesn't do the trick, then I'd go mag shopping. Wilson mags would be my first choice.I've heard excellent reviews of the Tripp magazines, as well.

My kimber has never (had it for 6 years or so) failed to feed anything I?ve put through it. I guess I?m surprised the bullet setback changed so easily. I ha 2 different text for seating depth, one said 1.25 and the other said 1.26. I?ll try seating it deeper for the next go round. Question: should my taper crimp be tighter to support the bullet better?

The normal 10mm seating COL is 1.2500" 1.2600". Some guns can handle some longer...
Some wide Nose bullets may require a shorter COL near 1.2420" to feed better...

That bullet appears to be a plated type and it was rammed into the barrel hood possibly.
Not sure why it may have popped up to hit the barrel hood possibly!
Also be mindful of the applied crimp...I do not like the LEE Factory Crimp die, I have seen it squeeze the bullet smaller and leave it loose in the case.
I could be turned or even pulled outward or pushed inward.

I am using the Lyman 4 die set, with the taper crimp as a separate last step.
One thing that was different, the round that had the issue was the last one in the magazine

Suggest Lee Factory Crimp Die for applying any crimp !
