Title: Turkish Sarsilmaz SAR 9
Post by: Kenk on February 28 2022 12:22:33 PM MST
a good friend recently picked up two Turkish made Sarsilmaz SAR 9 striker fired 9mm?s on GB for $200.00 each, and really likes them. Considering their supposed high quality and degree of reliability at that price point (commonly going for 3 - 4 hundred) as well as all the great reviews, I couldn?t resist my buddy?s offer to ship me one for his cost, how can you say no to that 😀😀😀

Took the Sarsılmaz SAR9 out again today, and man, I tell ya, you wouldn?t think it was an inexpensive firearm when you were shooting it. It?s been said that it?s a cross between a Glock 17 and a H&K VP9, plus it three different size blackstraps, and the same for the side grip panel?s. All in all, the Turks have come up with another amazingly well made pistol at a crazy low price point. Our LGS wants $405.00 for them, yet they can be found on GB for 200 - 250. If  your looking for a budget, yet we?ll made weapon, the SAR9 is totally worth a look

Recently hit the 1,500 rd mark with the SAR9, considering it?s level reliability, not a single malfunction, and it?s high degree of accuracy, not to mention it?s price point, I tell-ya, it?s a heck of a nice weapon 😀

The Sarsilmaz SAR 9 shares a lot of functional features with VP9 because HK licensed them design manufacturing rights.

I've had the HK VP9 for about 7 years and it's still my favorite 9mm.  Couldn't even begin to guess how many rounds through it in that time and never had a single malfunction.  Seen good things about the SAR9 but never moved to add one to the collection HOWEVER, if opportunity came up to snag one for $200 bucks I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

It?s not often you find something that reliable and well made for so little

I have purchased several turkish guns over the years.

Out of the handguns, they're surprisingly well made.

The canik s120, which is a close copy of the cz75, has turned into one of my favorite shooters.  Granted I have done some mods to it, but it's always been good.  The slide isn't as smooth as a beretta 92, but at the end of the day, I can shoot the canik better than the 92.  Or, maybe the canik just shoots better than the 92?  But whatever reason, it's more accurate and just as dead nuts reliable.

The other is my sars k245.  It's a double stack 45acp and there's nothing not to love about 14+1 rounds of 45acp in a nice steel frame gun.  It's accurate, reliable, and one of my HD guns.  Truth is, while it's too heavy to carry daily except for in the winter underneath of a jacket, but I used it when I took my CCW range test.  It also uses Para P14 mags, though the para mag followers are different and won't lock the slide back, but you can get the correct followers for the guns.

I've also owned several turkish shotguns and they're really well done too.  Some people will look down their nose at any gun not made in America, but in my opinion, the turkish guns that I have owned, rival, and sadly some even exceed the quality of some US made stuff.

Hey John, I totally agree, I have a dark earth Winchester SXP Defender made in Turkey, which is claimed to be one of the fastest pump shotguns. For somewhere around 250, you can?t beat it with a stick. I actually like it substantially more than my two 870?s. They seem to cost more now, something around 350.00 but when I got mine a couple of years ago, this guy on GB had a bunch of them on auction

I'm not a gear/brand snob.

But, I am particular about quality.

I've owned several turkish shotguns.  A tristar over/under, which funny enough, is the same model that mossberg imports as what their silver reserve 2 shotguns are.  Mossberg also imports a turkish shotgun model (SA-20) which is a semiauto 20 gauge.

I had a charles daly semiauto 12 but sold it back to my buddy.  I bought it from him when he was short of child support money and sold it back to him a while back for what I gave for it.  It was a maxi-mag semiauto.  Nice grey camo.  It was a good gun.

I bought an emperor arms 12 gauge semiauto too, which to be honest, the front bead was pretty far off out of the box and was the lowest quality of the bunch, but for $180 new in the box,  it's value still exceeded what I could have gotten from a well used single shot at the pawn shop for the same price.  I drilled and tapped the receiver and installed a rail mount and put a small red dot on it and remedied the shooting so far off of the point of aim.  It's hard to miss a squirrel with it now and between me and my sons, have shot several cases of shells through it without any failures.  Even the low brass stuff.  I camo dipped that gun myself.

Love them or hate them, the Turks have been making weapons for far longer than the USA has been a thing and are very good at it.

For sure, like with the Sar9, super accurate, no malfunctions, and all for around 200, yet our LGS is selling them for nearly 400, now that?s some big profits

I can't speak to SAR, though they have always been well reviewed when I have looked into them.  At one time there was a teaser they would have a SAR in 10mm, but to my knowledge it never happened.

The lone Turkish gun I have is a Tisas 1911 Government model clone.  Very impressive gun.  It has eaten everything I have fed it and is as accurate as can be expected given the sights.  I have about 1000 rounds through it to date, mostly handloads, but also some gold dots.

If you're in the market for a good Turkish made O/U check out the Stevens 555. I bought one in 20ga a few years ago and the quality is well beyond expectations for the price. The walnut stock is quite nice and the fit and finish is, too. Some of the early copies had a problem with doubling, especially in 12ga. That was apparently taken care of very quickly.

The only downside is the supplied choke tubes were crap. There was a sharp edge on the interior of the mouth of the tubes, like they were cut off with a tube cutter. I picked up some extended Briley's, which I planned on anyway and problem solved.

Should?ve made a SAR-10 10mm pistol. An all steel magnum semi-auto, with CZ-ish ergonomics.

What?s not to like?  8)
