Was just reading about Federal?s new 30 Super Carry cartridge that Smith & Wesson and Nighthawk Custom will be accommodating in the near future. The 30 Super Carry is claimed to have less felt recoil than the 9mm, as well as allowing firearm manufacturers to up their magazine capacity. To me, it looks like quite a gamble, especially when it comes to ammo availability. In a time when ammo manufacturers are struggling to keep up with the demand of common calibers, introducing something new could be risky.
Ive been looking at this. My wife would like to get her permit to carry. But she is thinking she wants a 22. I think she should have something bigger. When it comes to the smaller pistols even the 9mm is too much for her. She has pretty small hands. She has shot my dads 9mm Shield and liked they way it felt in her hand but the recoil was a different story. I have never shot a 380 I liked so Im not even considering it. So I am keeping my eye on this one.
For sure, it might be a good option for her
The physical recoil will probably be fine, but the muzzle blast from a 45K PSI cartridge is going to be quite the experience IMHO. She should try before you buy if possible.
Also, don't overlook the 32 ACP. A couple solid hits with it are very much better than misses with a 9mm. And there are some great guns out there in 32 ACP. My Beretta 82 is a favorite of everyone to shoot. I picked it up surplus for a great price and it looks brand new.
