Title: Primer Advice (Federal #150s)
Post by: batex on November 21 2021 06:15:33 AM MST
I'm new to this forum and looking to load some 10mm.  Loads will be moderate, using 8.5 to 9.0 grains of Longshot with Hornady 180 XTP or Speer 180 FMJ in starline brass.   For primers, all I have is standard Federal Large Pistol #150.   Have about 6K of these....In all my research on 10mm loads, I hardly see any mention of folks using Federal #150 primers and am curious as to why.   Seems like most folks favor CCI350 mag primers or Winchester.    Will I have any issues using Longshot with a 180 gr. jacketed bullet for moderate loads with Federal primers?

Also, what are the preferred primers for this type of load?   (I can at least get my name on the primer list at my local shop).

Well I just use any large pistol primer and end up with Winchester as I have had a bunch for years. Lately with the shortage I ran out of small pistol primers so I am using CCI and Fiochie as it is all I could get but they work fine. There are some powders that like mag primers and maybe someone will chime in on that.  Craig

I've used federal standard pistol plenty in 10mm.
