Title: New range shooting
Post by: gadabout on November 20 2021 09:31:03 AM MST
Just shot the STI today and it was very good after a few jams and a guy had a small screw driver which helped a lot. I got bummed out and went to my car for the Sig which shot so good I got bored and switched back to the STI with different reloads it shot super good. It is the most comfortable gun to shoot I have and my targets show how much I enjoy shooting it. I do need to watch what I am doing with the reloads for 9mm as I have had problems of late. I think I am just going too fast and need to check what I am doing.  Craig

This is kind of strange. I took the STI and ran a bunch of 9mm loaded cases through it racking the slide manually. All rounds chambered and extracted fine. I think I just ran into some badly reloaded 9mm that are almost gone now. I will re-taper crimp the rest of these to see if that solves the problem but now it's off to the range. Having two outdoor ranges to use is nice but indoor on a rainy, cold day is the real answer.

The STI ran great today with no feeding issues. I shot great also. Just finished some 45 ACP for a friend and may take tomorrow off or load some but not sure what. I have a ton of everything loaded and am really enjoying emptying some plastic boxes like 5 in a week!!  Craig

Shot the Kahr like CW9 and S&W M&P 9 this morning with no problems. The CW9 has like a antique finish that I really like but I think it's a different model number.  Craig

Just checked and it's a CM9.

Shot more this afternoon. Shot the Walther p-38 and the Glock 19. Both ran good, I am not there yet. Too many distractions but I will make it sooner or later. The range people seem to think I am doing great at 30'. I am just having fun and shooting a lot of different guns. Craig

Shot more today at the new range. I played the movie games a bit. I don't really like the set up as it seemed slow to me but blasting the zombies was a blast. At 6.00 a round I will skip all the games from now on. Guns and rounds shot great.  Craig

I guess you know you are getting somewhere shooting when you stop and turn around and all the people in the shooting range are behind you just looking in amazement at what you are doing!!!!  Craig

OK shot twice today at the range. First trip I shot the glock and Taurus g2. I am finding out different weight guns react differently with the same load. This was 125g JHP with Power Pistol 6.1g. Nice round that worked good in both guns just a little recoil in the Taurus but not so much in the Glock. The second trip was a little strange as I took the 303 British Enfield with the Trail Boss rounds I did like a year ago. Mixed in with those rounds were two other rounds that must of been 3031. It was a head turner when those went off. Got some empty brass to work with now for the 303. It's my backyard pesky rhino gun!!!  Craig

After shooting twice today I started separating the 115g from the 125g mixed American order I just got a few days ago. Boy it is a task but I am over 1/2 done. These are v-crown bullets and I did shoot 20 115g at the range trying to find a light load for some lighter guns. Using Power Pistol I loaded 6.1 to test. Nice round worked in the Taurus slim and the Kahr CM9. I used to shoot 6.3 as it works in everything. I feel the 125 will be fine at 6.0 or so. I do think it's funny you can't tell these bullets apart and you need to weigh them. Well back to it.  Craig :'( :'(

Shot this morning with the STI and the Glock and even the Glock was good. You know you are getting somewhere when the black dot bullseye disappears after a while.  Craig

This is almost a copy of yesterday. I shot the STI and the Sig Sauer. Black dot almost gone. I am getting better shooting as much as I am. Winter and who know I would be shooting more than Summer!! This indoor range is just so convenient to use. I can shoot twice much as outdoors in muck less time. Craig

I have been shooting a lot of mix pull downs like 500 or so. They are all gone now and my shooting has improved to the point of it being noticeable to me. The black bullseye being gone is now the norm!!! Ha Ha  Craig

I was having a few misfeeds with the STI and even the Sig but cleaned and oiled them both and no issues at the range this morning. Oh yeah shot good too.  Craig

I suddenly came to a conclusion that I have shot more in the last two weeks than I have in 5 to 10 years. My shooting sure shows it. It's a lot of the basics put to practice. I am loving it anyway.  Craig

Hey Ken, Where ya been? Haven't heard from you.Yeah the new range is great. It's costing me about 25 a month but using it twice a day so far I am way ahead of paying as I go at 20/hr. Nice people running the place which is unusual as I have had bad people handling me at some ranges, They seem to forget we are all carrying guns. BTW I was looking at a Colt Delta Elite 10mm. It's at 1190 brand new. Does anyone know if this is a fair price??  Craig

From what I can tell, that?s not a bad price, my local shop wants 12 something for them. Have always liked the Delta Elite, but not sure on the chamber support, unless I?m thinking about something different.
Later man!

Well I couldn't make a deal today and may just have to buy the gun outright. My guns are worth too much to just give away as a trade in. I am there everyday so I can just buy it anytime I get in the mood.  Craig

I did something very interesting and FUN. This range has a target controller that has programs built it that mimics a person moving so you shoot when the target is facing you and not when it is facing away from you and it changes distances so you shoot a couple rounds then the targets moves gets to a different position and you shoot again. I did OK but will do it some more as it's fun and no extra charge. Craig

Anyone who knows me knows I have had problems getting and keeping plastic boxes for reloads. I just counted and have 20 9mm empty boxes. Ah I guess I have been doing a lot of shooting lately at the new range. It has been open 1 month. Ah I may need to load for like 2 days to replenish my stock. Craig

BTW 20 x 100 is like 2000 but not all boxes were full. I would think more like 1900 rounds.

Just remembered I shot a lot of 41AE 303 Enfield, 380 and probably some others.

OK got 200 9mm deprimered and wet tumbled. I may size and flare and may finish tonight. Shot 38sp today in a S&W air weight.  What a handful to shoot, kicked like no gun I have ever shot. Oh well !!!  Craig

OK got 100 9mm done and 45 41AE also done. I am out of Power Pistol and have enough Titegroup to do like 50 9mm if I am lucky. I have a few 41AE left over empties to do either 210g or 170g something to test. I would like to use 300MP powder as I have it. Coming up with data will be an interesting. Can use 40 cal data but what ever. Craig

I have loaded 12 41AE with 170g bullet and 16.0g 300mp with the max at 17.5. Sound OK??? Oh this is 357 mag data.  Craig

This round worked OK but 16g doesn't fit in the case well and it was compressed a lot. I will try 15 to see if it fits and shoots!!  Craig

Won?t having the case that full increase possible pressure issues? Have a safe and Blessed Christmas Craig : )

Well that's why I lowered the charge from 18 max to 16 and it shot great but I will try 15 to see if it fits better. Craig
