Title: New XD-m Elite 10mm (3.8" barrel)
Post by: B320 on September 30 2021 12:47:30 PM MDT
So this is new:

https://www.springfield-armory.com/xd-series-handguns/xd-m-elite-handguns/xd-m-elite-38-compact-osp-10mm-handgun/ (https://www.springfield-armory.com/xd-series-handguns/xd-m-elite-handguns/xd-m-elite-38-compact-osp-10mm-handgun/)

They also have one with a red dot. Wonder why they didn't go full-size with this? Could have had real-decent capacity. I wonder... they'll probably release a larger one once we buy-up their stock of these 3.8" versions.

The two full size ones have been out for a couple of years now. One is a four and a half inch barrel and the other is five and a quarter. I have the latter and am very happy with it. I have already reached out to my lgs to check availability.

I was hoping for a full-size OPS Elite.... with the threaded barrel and additional grip zone (magwell).

Can't wait to own one of these. I have an unfired Glock 29 that should make a good trade.

I wonder if the 15 round mags will fit with a sleeve.

From the website:

Quote
REMOVABLE MAGWELL

The XD-M? Elite Compact comes with a short magwell for ultra-fast and intuitive magazine changes. In addition to the flush-fitting 11-round magazines that come with the pistol, you can also employ optional full-size 15-round magazines with a ?grip sleeve? by removing the magwell.

This is a great add IMHO.  A 357 Magnum snubby was the de-facto go to for personal defense for 50 years.  Small 10mm Auto pistols like this and the Glock 29 should be the auto-loading equivalent.

Edit to add:  Optics ready makes this a potential Glock 29 killer.

For sure! I would carry this, especially if I could throw a 15-round mag in my pocket.

As I posted above, Springfield goes to some length to say it does indeed work with the 15 round mags.

Dag nabit. Missed the gunbroker ones. Had to wait till after work to order.

Edit, some more showed up, snagged one without the optic. Don't really think I want to carry an optic. Especially one that sticks off the sides like the hex dragonfly.

Went to the farm store and one followed the wife home. Now I can have my full size back😁. First impressions the slide is very easy to move which makes me wonder if the spring is stout enough it?s a completely different set up than the full size 4.5?. More like the XDs. I am trying to figure out how to post pictures as I am tech challenged.  :D

I checked with a bunch of the big stores in the Reno area. Cabela's, Scheels and the smaller guys ... NOBODY had even seen 1. I drive back to my hometown and thought that its worth a phone call to my 2 LGS's. Holy cow! They had 1!
I made a beeline to check it out.

I own a G29 with a KKM barre, Trijicon night sites, multiple 10, 15 & 30 rnd mags. Its my Dirt bike/snowmobile carry piece.

I was really hoping that the XDm would knock my socks off.

The grip felt better, thats for sure. But the "META" trigger was a huge disappointment.

Think that I'll do my due diligence and head back into town and take the G29 for a proper shakedown between the 2.
But honestly, I don't have much hope that I'll be bringing home a new friend.

Anyone else have the G29 for a comparison?

Got mine in today. Not sure that it will take over my MP 45c as my EDC.

Couple thoughts after comparing the two.

1. This pistol is quite a bit heavier than my 45c despite the 45c being .2" longer.
2. Bore axis is higher than my 45c
3. I need to take the magwell off and see how the grip feels without it. My pinky is not terribly comfortable with it. This was mentioned in several of the reviews online.
4. Does not come with any OSP mounting plates, but has a card in there to request a free one, looks like there are 3 adapters. So I guess it will be a bit longer before my spare fastfire III is installed.
5. Spring feels surprisingly light for being a 3.8" 10mm. Curious if the slide will be getting battered with full house loads.
6. I don't get the fascination with doing non 3 dot sights, have a set of meprolight night sights ordered. Think I'll like the sight picture much better with the goofy half circle rear sight gone.
7. For all the bragging about the META trigger, I honestly don't notice any improvement over the trigger in my 4.5"
8. The grip safety has a nub on it that sticks out still when fully depressed, the 4.5 does not have this nub, not sure what the thought process was on this just feels like a small bean between the grip and your hand.

Overall feels very solid just like my 4.5" 10mm. 15 round mags seated and hand cycled fine without the sleeve, so I can CC with the 11rd mag and have an extra 15 ready to go.

Looking forward to get this one out to the grasslands and run several types of ammo through it.

Well shot the wife?s yesterday. The trigger is much better than my 4.5 XDM recoil feels lighter. No failures at all. Very easy to shoot well. Did not run any full house loads as I don?t have many so saving those. Like the mag extension that allows a full grip. The size difference is not noticeable when shooting but it conceales easier. 15 round mags work just fine, did not have mags sleeves yet but they are supposed to be out soon and SA will ship them for free with serial number per sales man. My 4.5? slide fits the frame and the 3.8? fits my 4.5? frame the frame length it the same on both. Internals look the same but trigger is way better no over travel and shorter reset the my 4.5?. Over all I like it very well.

I had been looking for a xdm Osp 5.25 for weeks.  Found one 4.5 last week EXPENSIVE but I like it.  Heavy.  Got me to thinking about the new kimber 9mm R7 mako which got me to thinking today about the xdm elite 10mm as a carry.  Went out to see one today at the local gun counter.  Now I?m thinking I need one ‼️   Plan to load down with a hard and heavy hitting super expanding goes in and not out boolit.  Got a recipe for me? Thanks

Hard to go wrong with AA#9 for heavies in 10mm.  Great velocity, full case, and in my experience good accuracy.  The only thing it doesn't do is economy.  I can get about 95% the velocity performance from Blue Dot at about 40% the price.

I do. The G29 is slightly wider. The XDMe is slightly longer & taller. Trigger is "meh". The 3.8" slide fits on the frame of my 4.5" The grip felt better after removing the magwell & switching mag floor plates. I ordered mine from Brownells. $594.00

I have the 5.25.    I shoot full power handloads, none of this watered down FBI Lite stuff.

I wonder what this version is for?  With spec loads it's overkill for thugs, and recoil should be heavy.  With FBI loads, you're better off with G23 or G19.

I just don't see a use for it.

Mine arrived at my FFL Friday.  Hoping to pick it up Tuesday.  Ordered from Gunbroker for $549.  Hoping to use it as my new CCW in town and the woods.  Replacing a G29 and a couple of G23s.

My goal is to reduce the number of platforms I use for personal defense.  My only two carry guns will be the XD-M and my P365.

I can carry full power loads in the woods for critters, and regular .40 S&W power loads in town.

Could be a brilliant do-it-all answer, or a pistol that doesn't do anything well.

I looked around all the stores in the Carson Valley (Nevada) and Reno area. NONE to be found. I live in Elko Nv. and when I went back home, I checked the LGS. To my surprise, he had 1 at $549!
Bought it the next day.
The ergo's are WAY better than the G29 IMHO. But sadly, the trigger was as stated ( Meh...).  I'll be ordering a couple of 15 rnd mags once I settle on the grip. Be sure to register your purchase with SA through their website. They give you a ONE TIME 20% coupon on stuff in the store.
I have ordered a leather holster for a XDM and will report on its fit.

So far, i've only ran 50 rnds of 180 Blazer through it. Works great. Heres a link to a video of me shooting the 2nd mag at 6" steel plate from 13 yrds. I find the recoil to be quite acceptable.

Shot my buddy's with the dot......did ok, but would have to work REAL hard to get proficient with it.Got mine (no dot) about a month ago.....love it. Took over as my edc from the 5.25 xdm 10mm I used to carry. Don't see much difference in recoil.

Got to thinking about how Glocks work with extended bb hanging out the front......Called SA and they said the 5.25 and the 4.5 would work without issues.  Took the 5.25 to range yesterday with the 3.8, switched bbls and it works fine.
My plan is to get a aftermarket bbl and have ports or magna-port do the end of the bbl (in front of the slide) for some competition work...(just cant compete in speed comps with other people shooting 9's).

Only upgrades that are planned are nite sites since this is now my edc.

I am thoroughly impressed with the execution of this CCW 10mm. Incredible trigger optics ready is an awesome feature it makes this weapon very accurate and useable. Interchangeable back straps and capacity of the potent 10mm make it a great defensive weapon. I have been carrying it apex without issues?

Hey everyone! Just ordered mine yesterday (should get it in a few days) and immediately started joining forums.  Found a small dealer who hooked me up for $699+ tax (with Hex) I bought it for carry and for bear defense (infrequent).  My question is, does the XDm hold up firing the heavy stuff? What grain should I look to stay around for bear (Flat nose hardened)? What should I get into for self defense?

Welcome Dreidel3, as for holding up to full power loads, I don?t know why it wouldn?t. For bear protection, Underwood?s 220gr hard cast would foot the bill perfectly

When researching what to buy I had a chance to get a Witness real cheap.  After checking reviews I saw people having problems with the frame cracking under heavy load.  I've also picked up some people talking about adjusting the spring for heavy loads.  Do I have to do this or can I leave it alone and shoot different loads?  I'd like to set my red dot for personal carry ammo but haven't decided on a grain.  Thinking I'd like it to be close to range ammo. I'll look into Underwoods.  Hopefully they are available.

I bought a 10mm XDM Elite 3.8 Compact OSP today. Should have it in 3-4 days. The gun store has one in stock but I didn't want to pay the NIB price for one that had been handled and fondled by curious people like me...and I'm SO glad that that magwell can be removed or that would have killed the chance of me owning one. The dealer told me that it comes with 3 mags  8)
I have no plans for a red dot as of yet, but it being optics-ready makes the price paid a great deal.
I love my Glocks, but I have a feeling that the fatter G29 may be dethroned as the EDC.

ETA...I appreciate any leads on great deals for 15 rd factory mags.

Mine seems to have no complaints eating anything and everything I offer to it. Take that with a grain of salt, but reviews online seem to suggest the 3.8 is every bit as reliable as the 4.5 that did the 10,000 round torture test without any failures.

Finally got to take mine out and good god it was bad. That magwell needs to go. Phew I think my pinkie is still a bit numb after some 180s at 1200. Ate all my ammo without a single complaint, but I didn't give it too many. After a couple mags with its god awful ergonomics my hand said that was enough.

I need to look mine over good. Shot my 4.5" and was consistently nailing bulls eyes at 15 yards. When I pulled out the 3.8" I could barely get it on a 8" target at 10 yards without a boat load of kentucky windage. Sights are nicely centered but no matter how careful I was to be cognizant of all the typical accuracy rules for pistol shooting if I placed the sight on the bull, it would hit about 5" left and 5-6" low. Oof.

Will take the god awful magwell off, slap some 15 rounders with the sleeve in it and see if it was just me not being able to get a comfortable non-punishing grip on it.

All things considered a good day off work, sent some 9mm down with the Sphinx, that thing is still dialed. Sent some subsonic really low power rounds out the ruger wrangler, and Of course laid down some 10mm with my 4.5 xdm and the 3.8. Just wish I had likes the 3.8 more than I do after its first outing. Still looking for an MP 10mm round here.

I agree on that magwell.  It should come in the box as an accessory that will never get used.. like that cable lock.
I had time to put a few rounds of Sig round nose ammo through mine. It handled very nicely, and not much kick at all...of course those Sig rounds are not very stout. Once I got the sight alignment dialed in even the 20 yd. shots were impressive. Credit goes to the XD...I need more range time.
