Ok been searching the net and haven?t been satisfied with what I have found. 1-If I got a drop in bbl will the 10mm mag work with 40. 2- will I need to change main spring. 3-I have read about shooting 40 in a 10mm bbl with out issues. So has anyone done this on a steady basis in the XDM. The reason is 40 ammo is on most of the store shelves but no 10mm. Im hoping to start shooting practical pistol at the local gun range. The XDM is the only semiauto I have. 4-Any other thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks from a new XDM owner
Not sure about the XDM, but my S&W 10xx series and my Glock 29 and 20 will feed the 40S&W cartridges just fine without issues.
They also feed 357Sig and 9x25Dillon from the magazines as well!
So I would imagine your XDM should feed well also.
IT will work fine in the XDM10. I shot a couple of mags of Magtech 165 grain FMJ without issue. I tried it out of curiosity when I had this same question.
Bar-Sto makes a 40 conversion barrel for the 10mm XDM. You should be able to use your 10mm mags with no problem.
I've built a few 40's on large frames before (Glocks, 1911's, wide body Paras, STI's & SV's) In the modern Glocks, the 10mm mags work fine at factory 40 length.
If you do have an issue, you can always take up handloading and just seat the bullets longer like we did back in the 90's-2000's.

Thanks for the replies. Has anyone fitted a barsto to a XDM? Are the dimensions for the XDM 10 barrels the same as all XD platform or are they different (ie slide dimensions not length). Video?s make it look fairly simple. I will load for the 10mm in the future however I only have a couple hundred large pistol primers that I?m saving for when it gets real bad. Going to order some more freedom munitions ammo soon. I know its pretty weak stuff but for target shooting it?s fine. Please forgive the newby questions but I am new to the XDM world.
