Hi all, thought I'd share some info and un-scientific data on some new loads I've been working on for my recently acquired CMMG MK10 Banshee. First, the gun is just amazing! Solid as a rock, and everything they say it is in all the YouTube video's. Winchester 231 is a powder I happen to have a lot of so I decided to work up some loads that would function well in the Banshee, and my Sig P220. Plenty of posts on the web regarding start/max loads with a 180 gn fmj fn bullet including data from most of the major powder manufacturers. Load suggestions seem to vary quite a bit so I decided to go with my old standby, Hodgon's Load Data website. Their data shows results from an Acme coated 180gn fn bullet with the same profile as the Everglades fmj fn bullets I have. So, I decided to start at a OAL of 1.250 (mixed brass) using a batch of Fort Smith LPP's ( so far, these have been great primers), and work up from 6.0 gn. and chrono the loads. Long story longer, the 6.0 loads had challenges with cycling the Banshee so I kicked them out. Next up, 6.3, same specs. 3 strings, 10 shots ea. My average of those 3 strings was 1132fps with a SD of 8.0. The chrony was set up 10ft from the muzzle. Not bad, and the gun LOVES this load. Did not chrono my Sig but it seems to like them too. Since I'm getting near the upper end of recommended loads, I think I'll stay with this one. Next up; gonna try some 2400 loads with the same bullets. Hope this is useful.
Welcome to the forum Rick408! Thanks for sharing the range report! W231 / H-38 are one and the same powder and are fairly fast burning.
Welcome Rick
This Post is Great Timing for me. I just picked up a CMMG MK10 300. I also pickked up 20 additional 30 round magazines and 1,400 once fired cases. I am now putting together a die set and I started with the Mighty Armory 40/10 Sizing Die.
I am looking for 40 S&W and 10mm Pet reload recipes. I do have a S&W Shoryforty that I want to reload for.Thank You for sharing your experiences with us. Win 231 is a powder that I do have and use.
Here is my MK10

In this day and age, you pretty much have to load the powder you can get. But there are far better choices for full-power 10mm loads than WW231/HP38 (which are the same powder in different containers, and BTW last week a Hodgkin spokesman told me they were going to discontinue the WW brand and only sell it as HP38).
In the past I used Blue Dot because it seemed to be the favored powder among 10mm shooters, and the loading manuals often showed best accuracy and highest velocity with BD. Lately I've switched to AA No. 7, although AA No. 9 might be a better choice for heavier bullets (i.e. 200+ grain).
WW231/HP38 is best suited for light target loads.
10.4 grains BD under a 180gr XTP Is the most accurate load I have found so far
Kent,
What length is your barrel?
