Title: Your next ammo
Post by: RRMan03 on April 07 2013 11:44:36 AM MDT
Ok guys what will be your next 10mm ammo purchase when you can find it? I am looking at more Underwood in 180 JHP or 155 in JHP. I have 500 of another manafacture I have to get rid of first. I am trying to get my ammo standardized into 2 maybe 3 different loads. G29 load,G20 carry and a practice round for both.Right now I have 6 different types and 3 of them just need to go live with there brothers. All good ammo just I am learning slowly what i  like and my guns like the best. Lets hear your choices.

Just curious - what ammo do you carry? I settled on Underwood 165gr Bonded Defense for normal carry, and Underwood 200gr XTPs when I am headed to the woods. I've been wanting to try out those 135gr Noslers just for fun...

For practice I shoot pretty much anything affordable ;-)

Right now I am carrying 5 Buffalo Bore 155gr Barnes all copper and 10 Buffalo Bore 200 gr FMJ behind them. Reason is I figure after 5 if I have not done the job they will be behind something. In My G29 I carry 3 155gr BB Barnes and 7 180 BB 180gr JHP. I am getting ready to do some testing now that the weather is better I am going to try some different combs and see what I come up with. I have plenty of mags and ammo so I can see if I want to carry full power or drop down to medium power especially in my G29. I am also going up to a 24 lb recoil spring from the factory 17 in the Glock

I generally make my own. But I was thinking some of my cases were getting quite old and I could probably get some new store bought rounds to get more cases ready if need be. So I just ordered me two boxes of 180 grain TMJ from Underwood, and two boxes of 180 grain Ted Nugent loads from Cabela's, both of which were sold out quickly. But I got notices from both places my order was already shipped, which is good.

My next reloads will be 135 gr,   I am cleaning brass right now and found more 10mm brass than I thought.    So should acutally get some loaded up later this week.

You are going to like both of those loads. The Nugent load is medium full power with good bullet and the Underwood is full power period. For all you reloaders I will save my brass when I start my spring shooting and if someone wants it we will work out something. All mine will be factory new whatever Underwood,Buffalo,Priv,Remington ,Hornady and Nugent use. I know Buffalo uses Starline and the Hornady and Remington are nickle colored.Underwood no idea and Priv no idea.

Yes they are all coming out of 3 different glocks. If the smile I throw them in the trash. I do not have many smiles. My guns are all this years guns so maybe they have a better barrel than in the past in the support area. I have never had a split case and I shoot only full power or nuclear loads except for a few target loads I have been trying to just use up. If your gonna have a 10mm shoot it like it was meant to be shot. Loud and hard. Not lite and quite.

DON"T just toss the smilies! I'll take them and run them through my Redding GR-x dies and get rid of them smiles!

WARNING!

"SMILES" can NOT be repaired!  The "SMILE" is the actual start of the metal shearing on a molecular level!  It can not be ironed out using the "Pass-Thru" sizing method or any other method!

Small bulges low on the brass near the start of the extractor cut is what the "Pass-Thru" is used for because regular dies can't reach that area!  Suggest you read about the issues here...http://10mm-firearms.com/reloading-10mm-ammo/cross-section-of-a-smiley/ (http://10mm-firearms.com/reloading-10mm-ammo/cross-section-of-a-smiley/)

Those would both be near or at the top of my list if I wasn't handloading now.  I really like 155s @ ~1500 FPS.

Don't care...I have MANY cases with multiple reloadings that started out with a smilie. They still working! I would rather take them than to just have him toss them.

Now if there is an actual rip, tear, or hole through it, yeah. Trash 'em.

Clearly you didn't read the thread that Shadow posted.

It shows cross sections of smiled cases.  They ARE torn.  The offset just hasn't opened a hole.

Ironing a smile out and using them means you are going to have a Kaboom someday, Glock or not.  The fact that you have not up to now just means you have had good fortune.

You are free to have your opinion and to act as you wish.  But please don't contradict the advice of the die makers against this practice or good evidence that the brass is permanently compromised.

Goes  along with over book value  loads.  Shadow, myself and others have posted data that is over book.  But we always advise sticking with book data and are clear that we are working over or without book data.

Components, when I can find them and when I can afford them. I really want to buy a keg of AA#9 and several thousand of just about any 165 or 180 gr JHP.
