Can you ship loaded rounds with UPS without Hazmat fees? I know it's a problem with usps but didn't know about UPS or even FedEx ? Craig
I doubt it. I tried to ship a special bottle of vodka to a friend, via ups. They wouldn't even take it. Just a flat "no". They gave me some nonsense about shipping restrictions during covid.
Midway used to have a deal, years ago, where they could ship powder, ammo, etc, using UPS with no hazmat fees. They probably did enough business to negotiate that. Not any more.
There is a DOT CFR 49 regulation on shipping ammo. It goes ground on FedEx (preferred) or UPS. They changed the placard that goes on the package to a diamond with black tip top/bottom that goes on one side of the package that you can print free off the internet. No additional charge related to hazmat for live ammo. If it were in the original package like a 5000 round case of .22 ammo, put an outer box over it and ship away. There are some state restrictions like CA that require additional paperwork and ship to an FFL etc.
Over on Rimfire central under .22 ammo you can read a long discussion on this subject. There is a section in the CFR that talks about specific training requirements to be met. Those requirements are for EMPLOYEES only in the case of regular shipping. I spoke to DOT to help understand that part of the regulations. Don't exceed I think 66#'s and you are good to go.
That's how Underwood does it also, FedEx ground with this sticker

I shipped some 200 rounds of 8mm Mauser to a different state. Printed off a couple of lables off UPS website. Took it to thier terminal in town. Simple. The only extra fee there was for the adult signature UPS required.
