Title: Well...Hell....I got bit by a bug
Post by: Rooster41 on February 10 2021 09:19:19 AM MST
and it left an itch that need to be scratched. In these times of zero ammo availability I stepped into a new caliber. I still haven't figured out why I did it. Yesterday I purchased a Bergara Ridge ("West River", a Scheels Exclusive) B14 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I've been talking myself out of this caliber for darn near a month. People on gunbroker are asking for nearly $100/box for this ammo. People selling brass and bullets must think they are solid gold. So I was going to hold out for a 308 or 243 which I have ammo for. I asked the sales guy if he had ammo stashed in the back for firearms sales. He said they did have 6.5 Creedmoor. 1 box. I had an appointment to go to and told him I would be back in an hour. When I got back they now had 4 cases of ammo, Hornady American Whitetail 129 grain @ 29.99/box. So I bought the gun and the max allowed 100 rounds of ammo. This rifle is sexy. I can't wait to get it to the range. Everything Ive been reading about these says this is an great gun. Any of you guys shoot Bergara. The link below is the one I got.

I don't have that rifle or caliber.  But I do have two rifles in 260 Remington, which is the same thing only a bit better (bit more powder capacity) and a bit worse (very long high BC bullets can be a challenge).  You can make 6.5 brass from your 243 brass, but it is a bit of a chore with both cutting back the case and possibly having to turn necks a bit.

If you can track down a source of 22-250 brass it is supposed to be a pretty simple neck up and fire-form operation, but I haven't researched it much.

Bit draw to me of the 260 was it kept me in the 308 family without trimming.  I have literally buckets of 308 brass sitting around.

I think you will be very happy with the 6.5. Both my rifles in that bullet family are tack drivers with very mild recoil.  Bullet dope is about identical to 300 win-mag for similar BC/SD cases.  It makes bench time practicing long range fun rather than the bruise inducing chore that it is with the bigger 300.  And when it comes time to use the 300 I don't have to re-think anything.

My old boss shoots, reloads and hunts with the 6.5 Creedmoor, and has nothing but good to say about it. Low recoil, and incredibly accurate, sometimes I'm totally looking into for a future caliber

I helped a guy at  the range sight in his Bergara B14 and it was a sweet shooter. Congrats on the purchase.

I was a little nervous about being able to find ammo or components. I've been lucky my last couple of trips to the store and have purchased 200 rounds of ammo. Asked my dad to keep an eye out for ammo and if he see something to pick me up a couple boxes. He sends me a text and picture the other night and tells me he picked up 11 boxes of Hornady American Whitetail. He found those in the Twin Cities metro for $22.99/box. So now I have 420 rounds. Ive got 600 bullets headed my way all at decent prices. I did have to pay gunbroker prices for powder though. But it should last me a while. This will be fun. Now if we can just get out of this deep freeze so I can hit the range.

Rooster41,
Looks like they got in a  few different calibers in today, but will likely all be gone by Friday 😩 they did have some defensive 9mm a few hours ago, but are now out
