I have never loaded up anything without several pieces of data to look at but searching for some target loads using a fiber drum of decades old Hercules Green Dot became a quest. Finally therognp passed on Steve's pages recommendation of 5.7-6.0gr using a 180/200gr bullet. Used CCI 300 primers, mixed brass, 1.255OAL with a 180gr JFN and the Lee 175 w/red lube. Results using 5.8gr of Green Dot out of my new to me Ruger SR1911 10mm 5" barrel.
180gr JFN- 10 rounds average velocity 960fps S.D. 18
175gr Lee- 17 rounds average velocity 1069fps S.D. 16
Cases were not sooty and of course the primers and head dimension looked safer than anything I have loaded to date. Pretty consistent soft shooting rounds to use up some of these bullets before moving on to my 200gr Montana Golds. I hated to use up my BE-86, CFE Pistol or W231 on plinkers with 4 pounds of Green Dot that will make 4800 rounds. Looks like a good safe load for cases getting long in the tooth and I might try some .40 S&W brass loaded long for the first time as well. Nice to pick up brass 8' away vs 28' too. On the way home today I kept thinking about the value of the 100 primers used.
Thanks again therognp for posting!
