I have run into some bad brass for 9mm. It's rotting away and when I put it in the resizer it crumbles. Has anyone ever seen this before? I am just pitching this as I find it so it's know big deal just wondering where it came from etc. I have about 20,000 empties so a few doesn't bother me. Just curious as I haven't seen this in my 45 years of reloading. Craig
Craig what was the head stamp on those bad brass?
Hey Wade very mixed but some R&P and others. This lot of brass was tarnished with a blue tarnish that I though would clean off in the wet tumbler and it did. Not sure if this weakened the brass or what. Was kind of wondering I guess. Craig
Any amount of Ammonia will attack the brass and destroy it chemically...If the polish was used to clean them had ammonia it could be suspect!
I only use water and Lemishine but I may have left these stay wet as I was reloading other brass with it and didn't work these up untill needed. It did look like a liquid spots type of thing. Oh well just interesting is all as I am down to 20,000 or 30,0000 9mm empties. Craig
OK just finished 50 of the questionable brass with about 15 replaced by other brass and everything went just like normal. I thought I might run across a split or two that I missed on the first go around but they all went just just fine. Not sure when I will get to shoot and I do have 50 more I will do today and that bad brass will be behind me!!! Craig
OK figured this out!!!! I came across a box of 9mm empties I sorted years ago and the box must have gotten wet some how and most of the brass is blue tarnished and bad. I will pitch all of these as I have so many they will not be missed.!! Craig
