Effective December 2, 2021, that merger agreement was terminated. We at Sportsman?s Warehouse are excited to continue operating as a separate, independent and publicly-traded company (NASDAQ: SPWH).

Funny, there goes the great prices
Don't see how that can be a good thing for the Sportsman Warehouse crowd.
Well I wasn't impressed with Cabela's after they were acquired, I bet Sportsman's Warehouse will fare even less well. SW had bought out the mostly failed Sports Afield (Dick's subsidiary) chain of stores around here and were the only real competitor to Bass Pro / Cabela's.
So much for that...
This is getting ridiculous. What about monopoly laws? Bass Pro ruined Cabela's, they're basically the same store now with a different name. Gone are the Cabela's brand items and replaced with crappy Redhead brand. Now Sportsmans Warehouse? Just another store to stuff with their Readhead brands. Might as well just convert every Cabela's and SW location to Bass Pro and be done with it.
I couldn't agree more. Bass Pro did ruin Cabela's. Now they'll ruin SW.

The owners of Bass Pro will do well... Everyone else will be worse off...

Are you for Government regulation when it appeals to you, but against it when not? No insult intended. It seems that as a whole, gun owners are anti government regulation, pro business.
I have always had mixed feelings about those. Isn't it a American trademark that free enterprise should flourish? Isn't the limit to BP whether or not people continue to buy from them?
If so, they will thrive. If not, they will fail.

It's about competition. When one giant corporation owns every outlet then they control the prices. I doubt regulators will do anything, they allowed T-Mobile and Sprint to merge, leaving only 3 major cell phone companies.
They will be ruined just as cabelas has been.
Absolutely, bought a $300 dollar plus winter hunting jacket from Cabela's 2 years ago with an unconditional lifetime warranty. The zipper went out this winter, so I called their corporate office to address the issue, they told me that the zipper was not part of the "unconditional lifetime warranty" I said really, so where does the unconditional part come in then. I'm so done with Cabela's regardless of how much I like their stuff

They didn't used to be that way. Their customer service was once top of the line. Apparently that was not a money maker so now they're trying bottom of the line.

That?s good news I think.
Looks like the FTC initial findings were that this would be block due to a monopoly lock on the market. I think a good thing.
Having done business with Cabela's for years (as well as being an outdoor retailer myself) we have watched the quality of inventory and service degrade at Cabela's stores nation wide. Also, since being purchased by Bass Pro, Cabela's no longer allows travelers to over nite in their store's parking lots. We have stayed in the Mitchel, SD Cabela's lot for more years than we can remember and always spent money in the store. That came to an end during our Spring 2021 prairie dog trip; Couldn't believe it. We are done with Cabela's/Bass Pro!

In other words, there was not a large enough payoff.
I can't speak to payoffs, but I can say that I know such mergers are extremely complicated from a regulatory compliance perspective.
My sister was the lead attorney on the merger of two major companies. The total deal was about 2.5 Billion and the resultant company was a 20 billion a year company. She told me the amount of paper to print the filings, briefs, opinions, responses, etc involved in gaining FTC approval was measured in semi-truck loads.
It?s interesting that here in WV Sportsman?s Warehouse has a store in Morgantown and in early 2021 Cabelas/Bass Pro started building a small store about 5 miles away. It?s now complete and I guess a direct competitor.
i like sportsman warehouse.maybe they will do good
Sportsman's Warehouse is the best outdoor stores in the Rocky Mtn West. I am an old guy who continues to buy arms and ammo. The employees of the Rock Springs store and the Nothern Utah outlets are great. So nice to hear they are not part of the Cabela's mess.
