I have a gen 3 Glock 20. It has an apex trigger and a KKM 4.5in a barrel which seems to be accurate to 15 yards. I'm wanting to configure it for hunting hogs and deer. I have a vortex venom to put on board and I'm wondering about the barrel.
My question is will a 6in kkm barrel provide more accuracy than the 4.5in barrel out to 50 yards? I understand the velocity will pick up but I'm more concerned about putting the shot on spot.

Got an answer to my own question via several articles on the interweb. It appears that there is no appreciable improvement in accuracy based on barrel length. Velocity seems to be the only function affected.
More velocity means less drop. Doesn't that mean its more accurate?
From what I read...And take that for what it's worth...It affects range but not accuracy. The reason is that bullet drop, in and of itself, is predictable. Hence holdovers and bullet drop indicators on scopes. What has to be accounted for is variance (what the shooting world calls "flyers"). So dropping bullets can still be accurate, you compensate for them with holdover.
The longer barrel will mean less holdover but the bullet path will still be predictable and thus accurate.
You can see it in youtube videos when a trace the bullet path of a long-range rifle shot. You can see the drop in the bullet over distance but the impact point is spot on.
So what I take away from that is that any barrel that preserves the stability of the bullet is a good thing. But that's only half the equation. The other half is the ammo. If flight characteristics of the bullet are unpredictable then more flyers.

More velocity will extend the range before you have to adjust your point of aim to compensate for drop. However, all else equal longer barrels are less precise than shorter barrels. So while a longer barrel may increase your "point blank" range, it may also degrade your precision to the point you can't consistently hit the target at the longer range.
In general I think longer pistol barrels don't compromise stiffness enough to compromise precision. At the same time, I don't know that an increase of 1.5" is going to increase your velocity/point blank range enough to matter either.
Some States require a barrel length over 6" for pistol hunting. That is why Glock sold 6" factory barrels 30 years ago for their G20 guns; long before they ever produced the Glock 40 with a 6" slide. Longer slides will give you a longer "iron" sight radius and smaller groups. If you have a red dot sight attached to your slide, the 6" probably won't be much better than the 4.5" barrel.

lone wolf aloha wolf flutedand threaded 7 inch with a holosun red dot and ameriglo 5x or 9x tall co whitness sights are what I use on my G40, with 140 grain penetrators I get over 1600 fps, there is a YouTube video on this very subject, I can ping 10 inch steel plates at 100 yards without issues and the 140 grain extreme penetrators will stop a hog, deer, bear with ease.....
I broke down and got a 6" SS KKM barrel or order one, not got yet. My experience with Lone Wolf and Alpha Wolf barrels is that the fatter XTP bullets won't fully cycle on the feed ramp and cause FTFeed every time. I tried different spring strengths and such. But I still got deer with one the one shot though the FIRST TIME it happened. Then I put in the OEM barrel and it worked ok for follow up shots on deer. I shoot the Glock 40 so it comes with a 6" barrel. But for side note on Lone Wolf and Alpha Wolf, every thing else cycled but the wider XTP bullets, even my Double Tap 200 grain hard cast bullets work in the them.
So getting the KKM 6" barrel for your glock would make it a great all round barrel for it, plus you can have it melonited for a pretty penny more that makes it purddy black.
